KEDDIE WOODSHOP How to make a Man's Shelf

Alright, so I set out to make a shelf so rugged, so manly it could share space in a the cave of a grizzly bear. When you're designing the manliest shelf, it must be carved from a solid block of wood. The lumber I used is Ash, to go a step further, this particular slab was from a tree I cut down a couple years ago and the bulk of it heated my house this past winter.  So now that we have an idea of why I made such a pain in the ass shelf... haha lets move forward. In all honesty i thought it was going to be easier and not very time consuming, it took about 11 hours total, but that includes jig building, thinking, aerospace math, camera angle, editing, posting, comments all that stuff. Id like to think i'd be able to pop one of these out in about 5 hours since I wouldn't be working from scratch.

The video below outlines the basic concept. Making straight reference then working your way out to the live edge.

I used these two bits for the bulk of the project

Yonico 14130 (Amazon affiliate link)

Freud 1-1/2 Straight Bit (Amazon affiliate link)

* The affiliate links let Amazon know I told you about the bits and they give me a small commission if you buy the bit from the link. It does NOT cost you any more or less but helps keep the lights on in the shop. Thanks!
