Christmas is fast upon us! I've been trying to come up with some original gift ideas and the first installment is these babies! They're relatively simple to make, plenty of variation to give you some ideas and best of all... you can make them in an afternoon! The tutorial is listed below the pictures! Enjoy!
The first tree is made from some walnut that had a lot of sapwood on it. Typically sap would isn't really sought after when working with walnut, I think it can add accent to a piece but in the past I have had issues with it shrinking or being less dense than the heartwood.
The finish is Minwax Antique Oil with a coating of Beeswax after it dried
These guys feature a finish called revealed grain. Its a term I coined several years ago! Essentially you just set the wood on fire, sand it and then add color. The beauty of revealed grain, it requires very little skill to get a crazy amazing result! Mother Nature does all the work!!
The final ornament is a piece of messed up cherry with some Total Boat 2:1 Epoxy Resin filling in all the voids. The pigments are simply acrylic paint!
